Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Presents Majestic Creation To Yang Di­-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 September 2017 ­– The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) General Manager, Alan Pryor (left) watches on as Executive Pastry Chef, Jamaluddin bin Zainal Abidin (right) explains the Centre’s majestic creation titled ‘TIME to Yang Di-­Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V at the annual cake presentation at Istana Negara, held in conjunction with His Majesty’s official birthday celebration on 9 September 2017.

Chef Jamaluddin shared, “This year our theme symbolises this historic moment in ‘TIME’ for Yang Di­-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V and the country, as well as the beginning of His Majesty’s harmonious reign.

“Creating a cake for His Majesty is truly an honour and something my team and I look forward to every year. We pride ourselves on our innovative culinary creations so we always start brainstorming concepts and themes in advance of the occasion, to ensure we create a cake that is unique, delicious and most important of all, fit for a king,” expressed a delighted Chef Jamaluddin.

The majestic creation comprises four separate compartments of different types of red velvet flavoured delights including cupcakes, cookies, pralines and mini-cakes.

Chef Jamaluddin, explained, this year’s cake, which took three team members over a week to conceptualise and close to two weeks to assemble, stands at approximately 5ft (h) by 3ft (w) and weighs close to 35kg. The sweet confection’s design was inspired by the unique architecture of various iconic clock towers around Malaysia, and the intricately handcrafted designs and individually-carved motifs were influenced by the country’s rich multicultural heritage.

Joining Chef Jamaluddin at the cake presentation ceremony held at Istana were the Centre’s Executive Chef, Hisham bin Jaafar and Senior Chef de Partie, Mohd Raimarmizan.
