Considered the highest potential for economic activities in the current global economic climate, the tourism industry has received a boost in Malaysia’s Budget 2016 with, amongst others:
  • Launch of E-Visas for seven countries including China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, USA and Canada, in mid-2016.
  • RM1.2 billion allocation to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture for tourism development.
  • RM523 million to enhance security in the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) bodes well for tourists visiting the East Malaysian state of Sabah.

There are also provisions for the continual improvement of logistics infrastructure such as:

  • A RM900 million allocation for the Jalan Tun Razak Traffic Dispersal project to reduce traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur.
  • RM1.5 billion to improve public bus services under the Rapid Transit Bus project.
  • A Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) II project from Sungai Buloh - Serdang - Putrajaya spanning 52 km. At an estimated RM28 billion, the line is expected to benefit to two million people. Construction is slated to commence in second quarter 2016 with expected completion by 2022.
  • A 36-km Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 project from Bandar Utama, Damansara, to Johan Setia, Klang. With construction targeted to start in 2016 and completed by 2020, this RM10 billion project will also serve some two million people.
